1979 Honda CBX1000 Z

Date Listed: June 2024

So the story of the CBX, I purchased it in June 2022 from a trusted classic motorcycle seller and the reason I purchased it from him ( I viewed many) and no one else was that Honda CBX expert, Cary Knapton had rebuilt the top end of the engine including disassemble and rebuild of the carburettors and checked everything else under the instruction from the seller and I have all the paperwork of the engine work which was carried out by him. Also addition worked was carried out before purchase, the replacement of the front brake master cylinder and also a new clutch installed with new oil and oil filter replaced at the same time and again I have all relevant paperwork for that work as well. The bike comes with the original handbook but no tool kit and the bike has not been resprayed (see rivets on front mudguard) and it still has the red dots on the brake calipers and a new Delkevic system. I had the O.E system replaced before purchased, due to the HM422 system was tired and tatty, yes I know I should have kept the OE system but I never went down that route.

I also have a file of paperwork for the bike and also articles about the History of the Honda CBX from the ex President of the International CBX Owner’s Association who guided me through everything to ensure it was correct. I also have a dating certificate from VMJC confirming frame and engine number and model of bike.

Also fitted is a new petrol locking arm, sourced from Paul Jennings a well respected CBX Restorer and also I have replaced the foam cushion for the volt meter from a member from the CBX Owners Club who restores the speedo and tachometers assembly for this bike. Again, this was done to keep the bike in pristine condition.

So regarding the history of the CBX, I suppose I have already stated the fact but having someone check over the engine from top to bottom and knowing that Cary Knapton had given it a full check over gave me the reassurance to purchase the CBX. Prior to me purchasing it, I viewed many CBX's which at times was very frustrating based on the seller's description after travelling to view to only be very disappointed.

However, I can assure you, seeing it in the pictures and being up close will take your breath away. Also having the very rare Rickman crash bars installed on it, makes it stand out and really shows of the engineering marvel of Honda’s straight six and racing pedigree. Also included in the sale of the CBX, is copies of rare CBX articles from test reports and also a copy of the rare fitting instructions for the Rickman crash bars.

I am asking £16,995.00 however, I am willing to negotiate on the price for a fellow member. It speaks without doubt that all of you are aware of the common problems you may encounter owning one of these prestige bikes but I hope that above gives details and the reassurance to any potential buyer.

Also one of the pictures shows the CBX on display at the new Honda showroom which had an open day to promote their new flagship store.
