Nigel Sadler - England Midlands Rep
My background
I have two sons aged 9 and 14 and a very hard working wife Diane. We live in a small village outside Nottingham called Cotgrave. I left school at 16 starting as an apprentice plant engineer and have been an engineer ever since . Over the last 28 years I have moved from plant machinery into mechanical handling equipment. I am now currently employed by Linde UK as a service engineer. I repair fork lift trucks and warehouse electric pedestrian trucks in and around the Nottinghamshire area.
My bike history
I have owned a small number of bikes starting with a Suzuki AP50cc moped at 16 years old which I used to travel 30 miles a day to work on. Then a Honda 125cc twin which I bought from new in 1982 followed by a Honda RS 250cc single cylinder, Yamaha XJ750 maxim shaft drive and now a Honda 1982 CBX PRO-LINK, which is the bike I have always dreamed of owning. I first saw the CBX at the NEC in the 1980’s as the centre-piece on the Honda stand. I waited in line to have a sit on one and have a play with the controls. There was no other bike at the time for sale that could emulate the striking looks of the CBX and in my opinion it still cannot be beaten. It has always been a classic bike. People who own one will know the pleasure it brings just from the looks and style alone. I know it’s sad to say but I have spent many a happy hour cleaning and polishing my bike. Also buying the parts needed and doing the maintenance work. It has now become part of our family and I cannot ever see me parting with it.
The Midlands Section - the future
I am in discussion with other Midland members to sort out a monthly meeting venue. At the moment it is looking like the Victoria pub at Coalvile on the first Wednesday in every month between 7 to 7.30pm. I propose to start in April where we can have a chat and a shandy and plan as a team what we want to do regarding ride outs and rallies. We can also have a look at other bikes that turn up and have our own mini-ride out into the countryside.
I would like as many people as possible to get involved in all the events and will encourage plus welcome everyone’s input. The time spent will be as friendly and light hearted as possible.
I feel there is great potential in the Midlands area and I am going to endeavour to speak to as many members as possible over the coming months and assist with any problems members may have with spares and maintenance issues. Some of which may be stopping them from getting their pride and joy out on the road and enjoying the company of other like minded people.
I will keep you all updated in the mag regarding ride outs and meet up times. Would other Midland members please send me their e-mail address’s so I can keep everyone informed on developments re dates and times of meet ups/ride outs etc especially in the event of any changes.

Gary Bristow - England South Rep
Hi CBXers of the South
With effect from the last annual rally I have taken on the mantel of Southern Representative which also includes being a committee member.
I live in Bromley, Kent and own a naked, green Pro-link.
I joined the Riders club in 1998 and attended my first UK rally in 1999 and I have also ridden on the German, Swiss, Danish, Dutch Euro rallies together with both Irish Rallies.
My goal is to encourage more social events and rideouts in the South. Most Sundays I visit Boxhill and many Wednesday evenings will find me at the Oakdene Café in Wrotham nr Brands Hatch ~ Why not call me to meet up?
This is our club and to get the best out of it we need to put something back in. So if you have any thoughts or ideas please contact me. Similiarly, if you want to discuss anything or want me to raise an issue at a committee meeting on your behalf, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or telephone.

Ian Foster - All Ireland Rep
Hi British CBXers,
Firstly, an Introduction ... I am Ian Foster, the Club’s ‘All Ireland Representative’ on the Committee. I live in Hong Kong and work as an Architect/Designer all over China, but I am often back in Britain and Ireland on Projects.
I started riding Bikes back on the farm in N.Ireland when I was about 12 years old on a Yamaha YZ175 Trials Bike. My first road bike was a new 1979 Honda MT-5 (restricted 50cc), moving up at 17 to a Kawasaki KH250-3, then a Suzuki GS550E at University in Manchester, and then a CB750F when I moved down to Oxford. When I was on a University Exchange Programme to WashingtonDC in 1988 I bought my first CBX – a perfect 10k mile CBX-A for 500 Quid! I brought that CBX-A with me back to Britain after my year USA Study Trip ended, it was the first CBX-A to be seen in Britain! Luckily I got to know Pete and Rusty Broad as they were establishing the British CBX Club, first as a Chapter of the ICOA and then as the Riders Club. I have many fond memories of the early Tours to France in early-1990s, weekend rallies at Ashbourne in the Midlands, the first ‘Euro Rally’ to France, and most weekends off somewhere with the active CBX group that gathered around the Broads in Basingstoke.
Over the years, like a magpie, I have been collected more Bikes and Classic Cars, never selling anything! Now I have quite a few in my Collection around the world ... so many infact that it is my plan to set up a ‘Motor Museum’ as a Retirement Hobby in about 15 years time. The First Phase of this has already been set up in N.Ireland at my parents’ B&B (see www.cam-hk.com/innerPageMuseum_nireland.html) with about 6 CBXs on display along with one of my DeLoreans.
On 1st January 2009 I sat down and started writing the “CBX Book” which was published in early-2011 to promote the CBX marque far and wide (see http://www.cam-hk.com/CBX/). From the research involved in this Project I have made many new CBX-friends all over the World and enjoy meeting them on my travels, or when they visit Hong Kong.
As far as our Club is concerned, you get out as much as you put in ... you will make great friends with like minded folk when you participate in Club Events. I am trying to make contact with all the Irish Members, so please contact me if we haven’t spoken. If you have any questions about the CBX or Club affairs I can be contacted via email (ian@netvigator.com) or Tel./Skype.
Best Regards, IAN

Paul Kirk - Wales Rep
I am 49 years old, and with the exception of living in Bridgend between 1987 and 1992, I have lived in Cardiff all my life. My whole family (father, sisters, uncles, cousins) worked for the Post Office so I was determined not to follow suit. But after brief spells with a few other companies, my father got me an interview with the Post Office in 1979 and I have never looked back with 30 years service coming up this year. I’m still amazed when I look back on all the different jobs I have had within the post office – I have really enjoyed my career so far.
I was married to Rosemary in 2005, my second time around, and we have no children between us. My father had always ridden motorcycles (usually an ex GPO Francis Barnett), so I grew up seeing the world from the back of a bike. When at age 16 I started expressing an interest in bikes, my father was delighted but my mum much less so. Dad won her over for me and I got my first motorcycle 3 months before my 17th birthday. This was paid for by some money left to my father when my favourite Uncle Billy died. Because I had always gone to see Uncle Billy with my dad, some funds were put aside for my bike – a Honda CB250 K4. The 3 months waiting for my birthday and being able to ride it were torture. I nearly polished it away waiting. I was the last of my group of friends to get a bike being the youngest, but over the following years we rode and rode. I moved up to a Suzuki GT500 and in 1979 bought a brand new Suzuki GS750 on the “never never” agreed on the basis of my new Post Office job. I can still feel the fear as I looked down at this huge engine sticking out from under the tank as I sat outside the local bike shop ready to ride away. There was a big audience of young lads looking longingly at me and I can still feel the embarrassment when I stalled 3 times. In 1980 came a new Honda Goldwing GL1000KZ, the last of the 1000’s and I went touring and was involved in the Goldwing Owners Club in its early years.
When I was aged 20, my father died leaving me at home with a disabled mum, I had to learn to drive to get her about so had combined 2 & 4 wheeled interests from then on. I have suffered with a bad back over the years, which culminated in a major back operation in 1995. I have since had 2 lots of further intervention and now suffer with a part wasted left leg due to nerve damage. So I do limp but providing I am sensible, I manage to carry on with most things including my bikes. Over the years I have had a tendency to get bored with my bikes and cars, so have constantly chopped and changed. So far I have owned 58 different bikes and cars. But back in 1984 I had a CBX Z (reg SUY 60V) in candy glory red and this bike has stuck in my mind always. So I knew I would have one again some day, and that some day came in 2005. So I now have a candy glory red CBX Z again. I’ll hold my hands up and say that it cost me a fortune to buy, that I got stitched up by a restoration company who I asked to do work on it and was finally rescued by Steve Courtney of our club who meticulously sorted it out for me last year. So I now have a CBX to be proud of and enjoy riding and showing.
I am also an active member of the VJMC (South Wales section), Saab Owners Club and Goldwing Owners Club. I have 5 bikes and 4 cars in my collection at the moment. Most weekends and any other spare time Rose and I are out enjoying our fleet in some way or another. I look forward to all members in Wales contacting me for a chat or if I can be of assistance. But be warned I am not mechanically minded in the least; I enjoy riding, driving, polishing and showing my bikes and cars but have to pay others to keep them on the road.
If there is anything about the club you’re delighted with or unhappy with, then let me know and I will feedback into the Committee.
Or else we might meet around and about. I can be seen visiting Abergavenny bus station during a Sunday morning to have a cuppa and view the bikes parked up. The Downs café near Cowbridge is another often used stop off on a Sunday. Else you may come across me at the South Wales VJMC meetings and rides on the last Saturday of the month – meetings are at 13:00 in Bonvilston.
