RALLY – 27th to 29TH JUNE 2008 – BASKERVILLE HALL HOTEL

Clyro Court, Hay-on-Wye, Powys, South Wales, HR3 5LE

Tel:  01497-820033  www.baskervillehall.co.uk

Baskerville Hall is a large 19th Century Country House hotel set in over 130 acres of the Wye Valley at the edge of the Brecon Becons National Park, made famous by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s story of Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles.  (We didn’t see any hounds whilst we were visiting – honest!)

On Saturday and Sunday afternoons there will also be a Medieval Jousting Tournament held at Baskerville Hall with food, ice cream and hog roasts available, but there will obviously be a separate entrance charge for this - £6 adults £4 children.

Camp Site

The camp site is huge and flat with great views, water point and a couple of toilets, a large hard-standing area for the bikes/cars.  Campers will have free use of the heated indoor swimming pool with 3 showers, toilets and changing rooms.  Outdoor Pursuits by prior arrangement with hotel – Quad biking etc (see website).

Hotel

We think that the hotel rooms are the only drawback with this venue – they’re a bit expensive (see tariff below) yet quite basic.  There are multi-occupancy rooms (single beds) and dormitories (bunk beds) which are a cheaper and might suit some of our single lads prepared to share a large room. Please note towels ARE available in dormitories as well as hotel rooms. Although the hotel has 40 bedrooms, there are so many types, it’s best to book early to avoid disappointment.  Please book hotel rooms and tent pitches direct with the hotel (contact details above).

The hotel has a free car park, numerous dining rooms, sauna, fabulous heated swimming pool and 3 bars, one of which is ours all weekend.  A cash machine is available in the foyer.  Good news guys and gals – the bars stay open until 1.30 am on Saturday morning and 3.00 am on Sunday morning!

RALLY FEE PER PERSON £13.00, children under 16 £6.50 - which includes Saturday evening buffet, rally badge and incidentals.  Friday evening bar food available in function room at extra charge - all other meals can be purchased at hotel. Does not include accommodation (hotel room/camping) – please arrange this directly with the hotel yourself.  Please complete and return enclosed slip and payment to Tony at address on Rally Application Form. Kindly check your bank statements or ask for confirmation to be sure application/cheque received.

As we are trying to attract new members to the rally, we are offering a 50% discount on the rally fee in the first year of membership – so do try it, you won’t be disappointed – we’ll introduce you to everyone and make you very welcome!

Itinerary

Updated and detailed information will be handed to you on arrival at the Rally

From Fri-Sun we will have the use of a fantastic private function room with dining tables, bar, dance floor, toilets, buffet area and a separate pool room.  The hotel “night club” (disco really!) is adjacent - £5 entrance fee on Saturday night for campers, free for residents.  As there is a disco on site, we have not hired our own group this year.  Members can also sit with the rest of us in the function room drinking, chatting and playing pool (with piped music of our choice).  The function room opens up onto a large (everything here is large!) patio area with picnic tables, lawns and a few steps leading down to the camp site.

Friday night 8.00-ish - we will be served in the function room with a range of meals/bar snacks for which you will pay separately when ordering*.  Whilst we were checking out the venue, I tried their Sun Dried Tomato Tagliatelli with Olive Bread – it was delicious, the best pasta I have ever tasted!  *IMPORTANT - Please indicate on the Rally Application Form if you require a meal on Friday night – you will pay and choose from the menu on Friday, but we need to know approximate numbers.

Saturday (timings are approximate)

11.00am – The ride-out will cover around 70 miles through the superb winding roads of the Wye Valley, stopping at a pub en route for drinks and a sandwich.

Over the course of Saturday the judging will take place of the bikes (please be sure to put the sticker on your headlight if you want your bike to take place in the competition).  Each bike can now win the same prize for no more than 2 years running (this is to give other bikes a chance against some fantastic bikes that at the moment win the same trophy every year).  Also one bike can win only one trophy per year, again giving other bikes a chance at a trophy.

4.00pm – Annual General Meeting in the Function Room. This is for Election of Officers and a chance to “have your say” in the running of the club. The AGM Agenda will be given to you in your registration pack on arrival at the rally.  The Club Committee meeting will then follow behind closed doors.

8.00pm - Buffet in the Function Room (included in rally fee) followed by our guest of honour who is the 10 times TT sidecar winner Rob Fisher and his technically minded wife.  Rob retired from racing 3 years ago to run his Lakeland Motorcycle shop and building a collection of “dream bikes” including his favourite CBX Z.   Until last year Rob and his passenger Rick Long were the most successful sidecar TT competitors of all time.  They also competed with some success in the Superside World Championships.

Sunday – you all go home!  We have the use of the facilities all day, so no rush, you can take your time to have a swim or visit the jousting tournament in the afternoon and say your long goodbyes....

Looking forward to seeing lots of old and new faces at the rally this year!
